Tat45's BAIN installation helpers
Note: If you get a "No handler found for image type." error when trying to use a wizard from a newly-created archive, don't despair. Cancel out of the wizard, shut down Wrye Bash, re-open it, and go back to the installers tab and re-run the wizard; it should work without error after a restart. I'm currently trying to run down why this is a problem (probably a bug in a Python library Wrye Bash uses), and until I find a workaround on my end, the above should suffice. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Overview
This is more of a collection of meta-mods. Its aim is to provide install helpers to reduce some of the pain involved in the installation of certain mods that are required for Bevilex' modlist for Oblivion - Graphics, but they can certainly be used in a standalone fashion.
BCFs and BAIN Wizards require Wrye Bash. Might work with Mod Organizer but because I have the Steam edition of Oblivion, I don't use MO as it's incompatible with OBSE. I'm pretty sure the wizards would work but am less sure about BCFs.
Currently there are BCFs for the following mods:
- DarkUId DarN NEW - Hate OMODs? So do I!!! Enough to create one and upload it here for your enjoyment! Requires "DarkUId DarN 16 Manual Version" -- NOT the OMOD version.
- Lush and Gaudy Floriana Gloria - base game. Requires "Lush and Gaudy Floriana Gloria 1_3" and "Lush and Gaudy Floriana Gloria Cleaned and Optimized Patch v1_3 Full Pack".
- Lush and Gaudy Floriana Gloria - Shivering Isles (same link as above). Requires "Shivering Isles Floriana Gloria V1_2" and "Shivering Isles Floriana Gloria Optimized Patch v1_2 Full Pack".
- Realistic Horse Eyes - Requires the download of the same name.
There is a standalone wizard.txt for the following mods:
-
Imperial City Retextured - Modular version. Requires "Imperial City Retextured - Modular version v 1.2"
Usage - BCF
A BCF is a set of instructions that converts archives from one directory layout into another without modifying any other aspect of the content. They take one or more archives as input and generate a BAIN install-ready archive as output. To use the BCFs:
-
Download the BCF and the required input archives.
-
Launch Wrye Bash and click on the Installers tab.
-
Drag the required input archives onto the Installers tab. Do not install them; just make sure they show up in the list of installers.
-
Right click on the column header of the list of installers (should be "Package") and select "Open...". This will open up your Bash Installers directory in Windows Explorer or what have you.
-
Inside this directory should be another directory called "Bain Converters". Open that.
-
Drag the BCF into this directory.
-
Go back to Wrye Bash. Select all of the required input archives and right click, highlight "Conversions...", then "Apply", and then the BCF that you just copied should show up as an option. Click on it.
-
A dialog box pops up asking you to name the archive. I generally accept the recommended name, but you can pick whatever you like.
-
Click on OK. Some time will pass as the archive(s) will be extracted, have contents rearranged, and repackaged. It will appear on your installers tab.
-
Install the newly-created archive. The required input archives are not necessary to keep in the installers tab at this point - they can be deleted or moved elsewhere.
Usage - Wizard
A wizard is a script in the form of a text file that walks you through the installation process of a mod. To use the wizard file:
- Download the wizard file and the required archive.
- Launch Wrye Bash and click on the Installers tab.
- Drag the required archive onto the Installers tab. Do not install it just yet.
- Double-click on the archive to open it - OR - right click on it and select "Unpack to Project(s)..." (this will decompress the archive and create a directory for it), and then double-click on the project.
- Double click on the wizard archive to open it.
- Drag the wizard.txt file from the wizard archive into the root directory of the opened archive or project. If the mod archive's format doesn't allow you to do this, you may have to resort to unpacking it to a project.
- Return to Wrye Bash and right click on the archive or project. The Wizard option should now be available to use to run this installer.
