ABOUT:
Requested by Craytose on the Nexus forums, this simple NPC edit changes the guards so that they will no longer be 10 levels above the player character. This prevents all Imperial Guards taking out threats in 2 seconds flat, and offers the player a bit more of a challenge. No longer are the roads kept quite as safe as they were, and the player will have to keep his/her guard up more. There are two versions:
Lower Guard Levels.eps - Full version, all town guards are 5 levels above the player, all roadside guards (Soldiers, horsemen, and foresters) are 2 levels above the player, and quest soldiers are matching player level, rather than being below it.
Lower Guard Levels LITE - This version affects ONLY the guards outside the cities, making them only 2 levels above the player.
Only install one version. The LITE version's edits are taken directly out of the full version anyway, so you'll just be confusing your game and taking up space you don't need to be.
INSTALLATION:
This is where it gets complicated, so make sure you follow these instructions EXACTLY, or this will not work.
You MUST USE WRYE BASH to get this mod to work.
1: Extract the zip file into your Bash Installers folder.
2: Install the version you want using wrye bash.
3: In the mods tab, activate the mod, then right click under "Bash Tags" in the bottom right and click the arrow down in the list you are provided until you see "RELEV", click this, adding it as the bash tag for this mod.
4: Rebuild your bashed patch, making sure to check "Merge Patches", and in the Merge Patches list, also check the .esp file of the version you are going to use.
5: Once your bashed patch is rebuilt, confirm that Lower Guard Levels is selected with a + (with the .esp of your choice of course) click on the "Saves" tab, directly to the right of "Mods" in the header list.
6: Highlight the save-games you wish to apply this mod to (shift-clicking each one if you desire to add it to multiple saves) and right click on it/them.
7: Select "Update NPC Levels" and hit okay.
8: Bash will scan your active mods for NPC Levels, then apply it to your game.
9: Start Oblivion and enjoy!
UNINSTALLATION:
- Uncheck the mod in the load order application you use. (Optional)
- Delete the file.
