Vault 87 Entry Fix
Note: As of like a year ago, but certainly now, 27 Dec 2010, I'm not really actively doing anything with Fallout 3. In the event anyone wants to steal my stuff and make it better (and hasn't already), go for it.
Description:
I added the standard cave entrance outside the Vault 87 vault door (before, you opened the door and were staring into the void), linked the cave entrance to the exterior door (which was previously inaccessible), and added some clutter and lighting to the vault entrance rooms.
This is my first released mod, hope you like it! Please let me know if you find any bugs.
NOTE: I've created another mod to fix a bug (not caused by this mod) that fires all vanilla followers except Fawkes when re-entering Vault 87 after that part of the main quest. The mod is located here, and should make it safe to venture into Vault 87 again: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2197
NOTE 2: In the comments section, there's a complaint about not being able to enter V87 because the door isn't powered. This was intentional. If you've progressed far enough in the main story that you could get to the main door from the inside in the vanilla game, the vault door has been powered "by the quest npcs" and will open. If you haven't progressed that far, the door won't open because I didn't want to break the game by entering quest areas you're not supposed to be in yet. The next door in requires a key until the main quest anyways, so it's not like you could get far, and the super mutant corpses make less sense if you haven't gone through the main quest yet. If you want to tempt fate, you can always TCL past them.
Or. . . I went ahead and made a version that doesn't check for MQ progression and you can just open the vault door yourself. You need 75 science and a fission battery to power the terminal, and 75 lockpicking to get through the next door. Or you could use Explosive Entry instead of lockpicking. I ran around a bit inside the vault and didn't see any ill effects, but don't blame me when all your save files are belong to the corruption monster.
Known Bugs:
It may just be my computer, but during the animation of the door opening, the game gets pretty laggy. Once the animation is finished, there are no problems, so I don't think it's a big deal, and have no idea how I'd fix it.
Future Plans:
I think I'm done. Not likely that I'll mess with the lag bug, since it doesn't affect anything except during that 5 seconds or so.
Installation:
Just drop it in your Fallout 3\Data folder, and check it in the launcher (click Data Files if using the stock launcher, or it's right there if using FOMM). Uncheck/delete to uninstall.
